Root resection

Apicoectomy or root end resection is an established surgical method of healing teeth when their root apices have been severely damaged by infection or inflammation.
As a rule, this procedure is performed in addition to conventional root filling when the latter alone cannot produce the desired success in treatment. The goal of the treatment is the implementation of complete, hermetically sealed root filling. During the surgery, the outermost tip of the dental root is removed. After such an operation, there is usually a substantial bone deficiency which must be filled with bone replacement material.
Upon completion of a successful intervention, the healed tooth is stable and can be used in prosthetic rehabilitation.
In our practice, the procedure is carried out under local anesthesia with a sedative injection or under general anesthesia.
